Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge: How to Take a HDR Photo in Camera App in Android 5.1.1 Lollipop

HDR (High Dynamic Range) is a feature in the Camera app in Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge that will let you take photos with rich colours and reproduce details regardless of what lighting conditions you're taking photos in. When this mode is enabled, the camera will take multiple photos at different exposure levels and then combine them to provide you a final photo with a good exposure in real time. This mode is best used when you're taking photo of a landscape, building, portrait in sunlight, shaded object, and low-light scene.

How to take a HDR photo in the Camera app?
HDR mode can be used in both the rear and front cameras. But, as the example, we'll take a HDR photo with the rear camera while in Auto mode by using the following steps:
  1. Open the Camera app. If the quick launch feature is enabled, you can quickly launch the Camera app from any screen by pressing the Home key twice in quick succession.
  2. Tap the HDR mode icon to enable it. The icon changes depend on the setting you're using:
    • : this icon will display when HDR mode is disabled.
    • : this icon will display when HDR mode is enabled.
    • : this icon will display when HDR mode is set to auto which means your phone will automatically enable HDR mode based on the shooting conditions.
FYI, you can set the HDR mode to ON or AUTO.
  3. Aim the camera to the subject.
  4. If needed, you can change the focus by tapping the image on the preview screen where the camera should focus.
  5. Tap to take a HDR photo.
  6. Tap the preview thumbnail to view the photo in full screen view in the Gallery app.
