Samsung Galaxy S4: How to Change the Default Email Account in Email App in Android 4.4 Kitkat

Manage multiple email accounts is the ability owned by Email app, it allows you to add more than one email accounts into Email app. It surely will also help you to save the time because now you can manage all of your email accounts in a single place compared if you have to access each email account in a different place. You can easily add additional email account through the Email app or the Settings menu. When you have added multiple email accounts, the first one will be set as the default automatically.


How to change the default email account in Email app?
In case you want to set another email account as the default, there are some methods that can be used by you to do so: when you add a new email account, from the Email app itself and from the Settings menu.


Method #1: While adding an email account
When you add a new email account to Email app through the Email app itself or the Settings menu, within the process, you'll be presented with an option to allow you set this email account as the default.


Method #2: From the Email app
  1. Open Email app.
  2. Tap the Menu key and then select Settings.
  3. Tap Account settings. All your email accounts will be listed here. The default email account will be labelled with a blue checkmark icon .
  4. To change the default account, tap the required email account.
  5. Check the box next to Default account to set the selected email account as the default.
  6. The default email account has been changed.


Method #3: From the Settings menu
  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Accounts tab.
  3. Tap Email.
  4. Tap Settings. You'll see all your email accounts are listed here. The default email account will be labelled with a blue checkmark icon .
  5. To change the default, tap the required email account.
  6. Check the box next to Default account to set the selected email account as the default.
  7. The default email account has been changed.

Once you set the default email account, Email app will use the email account by default when you compose a new email message or when you share a thing(contact, picture, etc) via email. So, given from the function, it'd better if you set the most frequently used email account as the default.

Even so, there are some reason that may led you want to remove your email account that you have added in Email app, for instance when you want to clean up Email app or when you want to save more data by removing a rarely-used email account or else. As same as when you add email account, you can also delete email account from Email app with ease.


How to delete an email account from Email app?
Generally, there are two methods available that you can use to delete email account, through the Email app itself or through the Settings menu.


Method #1: From the Email app
  1. Open Email app.
  2. Tap the Menu key and then select Settings.
  3. Tap Account settings to view all of your email account that you have added before.
  4. Tap the Trash can icon at the top right corner of the screen.
  5. Select the desired email account you want to delete.
  6. Tap Delete button.
  7. Tap OK button to confirm.
  8. The selected email account will be deleted.


Method #2: From the Settings menu
  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Accounts tab.
  3. Tap Email. Here you can see all of your email accounts are listed under Accounts section.
  4. Tap the desired email account you want to delete.
  5. Tap Remove account.
  6. Tap Remove account button to confirm.
  7. The selected email account will be deleted.

FYI, once you delete an email account, all messages, contacts and other data within the email account will be deleted from your phone.

Samsung Galaxy S4: How to Add Multiple Email Accounts in Email App in Android 4.4 Kitkat

As we all know that Email app in the Samsung Galaxy SIV has the ability to manage multiple email accounts. That's why, if you have more than one email accounts then you can add all of them into your phone so that you'll be easier to manage all of your email accounts in one place, such as send, receive, reply, forward or delete email messages in the required email account according to your need. FYI, it's not the same as when you add an account in Gmail app, in Email app you can't create a new email account, you're only allowed to add your existing email accounts that you have made before through email-provider websites.


How to add multiple email accounts in Email app?
You can add additional email accounts in Email app through the Email app itself or through the Settings menu.


Method 1: From the Email app
If it matters, I'm using Email app version 4.2 to write the following steps.
  1. Open Email app.
  2. Tap the Menu key and then select Settings.
  3. Tap Add account.
  4. Enter your Email address and Password in the provided fields. To avoid you type a wrong password, you can enable Show password option so that the entered password will be visible and help you to type it correctly.
  5. If you want to set this new account as the default account, then check the box in the left side of Send email from this account by default to enable this option.
  6. Tap Next button.
  7. Here you will see some options to configure the email account settings:
    • Period to sync email: select this option to define the email synchronization period (All, 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month).
    • Sync schedule: select this option to define the email synchronization schedule (Every 5 minutes, Every 10 minutes, Every 15 minutes, Every 30 minutes, Every hour, Every 2 hours, Every 4 hours, once a day).
    • Peak schedule: select this option to define the email peak schedule (Every 15 minutes, Every 30 minutes, Every hour, Every 2 hours, Every 4 hours, Once a day).
    • If necessary, check the box in the left side of Sync Email to enable sync.
    • If necessary, check the box in the left side of Notify me when email arrives to enable notification when a new email message is received.
    • If necessary, check the box in the left side of Automatically download attachments when connected to Wi-Fi to enable this option.
  8. Tap Next button.
  9. If necessary, you can change the account name (this name will be used as the email account name in Email app) and your name for this account (this name will be displayed in outgoing email messages) in the provided fields.
  10. Tap Done button.
  11. Your email account has been added.


Method #2: From the Settings menu
  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Accounts tab.
  3. Tap Add account.
  4. Tap Email.
  5. Enter your Email address and Password in the provided fields. To avoid you type a wrong password, you can enable Show password option so that the entered password will be visible and help you to type it correctly.
  6. If you want to set this new account as the default account, then check the box in the left side of Send email from this account by default to enable this option.
  7. Tap Next button.
  8. Here you will see some options to configure the email account settings:

By utilizing the ability of the Email app to manage all of your email accounts, now you can manage them with ease in one place compared if you have to access them in a different place/app.

Samsung Galaxy S4: How to Download and Install Free Applications from Samsung Apps in Android 4.4 Kitkat

If all Android phone users can install apps from the Android official market Google Play Store, then for the Samsung phone users aside from installing apps from the Play Store they can also install apps from the Samsung Apps which is the official market for Samsung phones. As same as the Play Store, in Samsung Apps you can find various apps both free or paid apps. In this market, even you can find some apps which is specially created for your Samsung phones that you can't find in the Play Store.



How to download and install free applications from Samsung Apps?
Below are the steps to do so:
  1. Tap Apps in Home screen.
  2. Swipe the screen to the right or left to find Samsung Apps, and then tap it.
  3. If this the first time for you use the Samsung Apps and you have not added a Samsung account on your phone yet, then you'll be asked to either activate your existing Samsung account or add a new one by following the on-screen instructions. Other way, you can also add a Samsung account through the Settings menu.
  4. In the Samsung Apps main page you'll see three tabs:
    • Staff picks: tap this tab to see the apps that have been chosen by Samsung. Here the apps are categorized into Premium choice apps and Featured collection apps.
    • Chart: tap this tab to see the most widely used/popular apps. Here the apps are categorized into Top game, Top paid, Top free and Top new.
    • Category: tap this tab to see the apps based on the available categories(e.g: GALAXY Essentials, Business, Font, etc).
  5. If you find the app you like, tap the app to see the app detail. Or if you have difficulty to find certain app then you can use the search function to make you easier to find the app you want by following the steps:
    • Tap the Search icon located at the top of the Samsung Apps page.
    • Enter the app name in the search field and by default you'll see some related-apps names appear below the search field. Tap one of them to start searching.
    • In search result page, tap the desired app to see the app detail.
  6. Tap Free button.
  7. Tap Accept and download button to start installing.
  8. Once the installation process is completed, tap Open button to open the app.

By knowing how to install apps from the Samsung apps, now you can easily install free apps or other Samsung applications that -probably- you can't find in the Play Store.

As we all know that Google Play Store is the official market for all Android phones, including with the Samsung Galaxy SIV. From here you can find various apps and then install them into your phone. In order to be able to access the Play Store, you have to add your Google account on your phone, either by activating the existing Google account or creating a new one.

Aside from installing apps from the Play Store, Samsung phone users can also install apps from the Samsung apps. As same as the Play Store, you can find various apps in here both free or paid version and then install them into your phone. While you're browsing apps, you may notice that some apps in the Samsung apps can't be found in the Play Store. Well, to be able to access Samsung apps and other Samsung-related apps/services, first you have to add a Samsung account on your phone, either by activating the existing Samsung account or creating a new one.



How to add a Samsung account?
If you have not added a Samsung account in your phone yet, usually you'll be asked to either activate your existing Samsung account or create a new one when you open any Samsung-related apps/services. But, as the example, we'll try adding a Samsung account through the settings menu. Here they are:
  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Accounts tab.
  3. Tap Add account.
  4. Tap Samsung account.
  5. To activate the existing Samsung account go to the step #6, while to create a new Samsung account go to the step #7.
  6. Activating the existing Samsung account:
    • Tap Sign in button.
    • Enter your Samsung username and password.
    • Tap Sign-in button.
    • Tap OK button to accept the terms and conditions and the privacy policy.
    • Mark the checkboxes in the terms and conditions page and then tap Agree button.
  7. Creating a new Samsung account:
    • Tap Create account button.
    • Fill the form with the required information(e.g: email address, password, first name, etc).
    • Tap Sign up button and then follow the on-screen instructions.
  8. Once done, your Samsung account will be listed in the accounts tab in the settings menu.

Please note that it doesn't same with Google account that will allow you to add more than one accounts in a single device, you're only allowed to add a single Samsung account in a single device.

Samsung Galaxy S4: How to Sync Facebook Photo Albums with Gallery App in Android 4.4 Kitkat

As we all know that Facebook has been being one of the most popular social media since a couple years back. Having a Facebook account allows you to stay connected with others' users, create status, share picture, etc. Even though this app is quite popular but the Samsung Galaxy SIV didn't include it as one of the pre-installed apps therefore you have to install this app by yourself through the Google Play Store if you want to use this app in your phone.

So, if you already have a Facebook account and often upload your photos to your account from various devices, then you can sync your Facebook photo albums with your phone so that you can view them directly from the Gallery app and use all available options in this app, for instance set a Facebook photo as the wallpaper, contact photo, etc or share the photo to your contacts easily from the Gallery app.



How to sync Facebook photo albums with Gallery app?
FYI, these steps only allow you to view the Facebook photo albums and use the available options in the Gallery app, but it won't allow you to edit or delete the photos. Well, assuming that you already have the Facebook app in your phone, then here are the steps to sync:
  1. Open the Gallery app.
  2. Tap the Menu key and then select Settings.
  3. Tap located at the top right corner of the screen and then select Sync apps with Facebook.
  4. Enter your Facebook username and password and then tap Log in button.
  5. You'll be asked whether you want your phone to post to Facebook for you. Tap OK button if you want or tap Not now button if you don't. I personally prefer to choose Not now button.
  6. Mark the checkbox besides the Sync Gallery option to allow your phone synchronizes your Facebook photo albums with Gallery app.
  7. Tap Done button. Your Facebook account will be added in the Accounts section in the Gallery app settings and the phone will start syncing. The sync process may take a few minutes or so, depending on how many photos on your Facebook account.
  8. To avoid large data for syncing process, you can set your phone only sync your Facebook photo albums when you're connected with the Wi-Fi network by turning on the Sync only via Wi-Fi option.
  9. Once the sync process is completed, you'll see all your Facebook photo albums are displayed and labelled with the Facebook icon in the Gallery app.

Please note that your phone may become slower than before because it must load the Facebook photo albums, especially if you have a lot of photos on your Facebook account.

Samsung Galaxy S4: How to Activate an Existing or New Google Account

As with another Android-based smartphone, activating Google account is one of the most important thing to do to allow you accessing all Google services in your Samsung Galaxy SIV. For instance accessing the Google Play Store to download apps or games, Gmail to send and receive email, Youtube to upload video, etc.

Assuming that you already have an internet connection on your phone, then below are the steps you need to do to activate Google account on your phone, either the existing account or the new one.


Method #1: Activate New Google Account
if you don't already have a Google account or want to create a new Google account, then kindly follow the steps below to do so:
  1. Slide down the top edge of the screen using your finger.
  2. Tap the Settings icon.
  3. Tap Accounts tab.
  4. Tap Add account.
  5. Tap Google.
  6. Tap New.
  7. Type your first name and last name, and then tap the Right arrow button to go to the next steps.
  8. Type the name of your new Google account, and then tap the Right arrow button to go to the next steps.
  9. Type the password twice for your Google account, and then tap the Right arrow button to go to the next steps.
  10. Next, you just need to follow the on-screen instructions to complete the settings for your new Google account.
  11. Once you've done the setup, your new Google account will be listed in the Google account list.
  12. Now, you're ready to use your Google account to access all Google services available on your phone.

How to activate an existing Google account?
If you already have a Google account and want to use it on your phone, then you can simply add that account in your phone by following the steps below:
  1. Slide down the top edge of the screen using your finger.
  2. Tap the Settings icon.
  3. Tap Accounts tab.
  4. Tap Add account.
  5. Tap Google.
  6. Tap Existing.
  7. Type your Google account or Gmail account name in the Email field.
  8. Type the password of your Gmail account in the Password field and then tap the Right arrow button to continue to the next steps.
  9. Next, you just need to follow the on-screen instructions to complete the settings for your existing Google account.
  10. Once you've done the setup, your Google account will be listed in the Google account list and you're ready to use it to access all Google services available on your phone.

Samsung Galaxy S3: How to Remove Picasa Album from Gallery App

Aside from retrieving pictures from the photo files you saved in your device, you can also set your Samsung Galaxy SIII to retrieve pictures from another source outside the phone, for instance you can display your Facebook pictures gallery in the Gallery app. But, if you don't want the Facebook album show up there, you can set the Gallery not to display them or you can stop the device not to sync with your Facebook account.

Another album that might be shown in the Gallery app is Picasa album. This may happen because you have set your Google account to sync with the Picasa web album. Well, if you also don't want this album show up in your Gallery app, then you can remove them by setting the phone to stop syncing with Picasa web album.


How to remove Picasa album in Gallery app?
Below are the steps you need to do:
  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Account and sync.
  3. Tap your Google account.
  4. Uncheck the checkbox next to Sync Picasa Web albums to stop the device sync with Picasa web albums .
  5. Go back to Settings menu.
  6. Tap Application manager.
  7. Swipe to the All screen.
  8. Find the Gallery app, then tap it.
  9. Tap Clear data button followed by tapping the OK button to confirm clearing the data. You don't need to worry, this process will not make you lose any picture.
  10. Now, you can try to open the Gallery app and let it to refresh. The Picasa album should not appear in the Gallery app.

For the record, this steps only stop the sync process between the device and Picasa web albums to make the Gallery not displaying the Picasa album. All of photos that you already synced with the Picasa web albums still remain there. You can access them through the Picasa web from the Browser app. So, hope this helps :)

Samsung Galaxy S3: How to Remove Facebook Photos on Gallery App

By default, the Gallery app will show you all the photo and video files that you save on your device, either in the phone memory or the SD card. In addition, you can also display pictures from another source outside the phone, for example you can display your Facebook gallery pictures, simply by syncing your phone with your Facebook gallery. For some users this will help them because they can see their Facebook photos directly through the Gallery app.

Even so, for other users, Facebook albums and photos that appear in the Gallery app are very annoying them, especially for those who accidentally sync the phone with their Facebook gallery. Unfortunately, some of them said that they have difficulties when trying to delete Facebook photos from Gallery app, not as easy as when they show them up on Gallery app.


How to remove Facebook pictures gallery ?
If you're also experiencing this issue and have not found the solution, then here I'll show you two methods that you can do to fix this problem. Well, here they are:
I. Filtering content on Gallery app
The first methods that you can do is by setting the content you like to show in the Gallery app. Here's the step:
  1. Open Gallery app.
  2. Tap the Menu key then select View by option.
  3. On the pop up menu select Content in device option. when the radio button next to the option shows green means the option is selected.
  4. Now, the Gallery app will only show the pictures and videos you have saved in your device.

II. Clear the app data and remove Facebook account
The second method is by clearing the Facebook and Gallery app data followed by removing Facebook account then sign in back into your Facebook account. Here the complete steps to do so:
  1. Clear Facebook and Gallery App Data.
    • Go to Settings.
    • Tap Application manager.
    • Swipe to the All screen.
    • Find a Facebook app, then tap it.
    • Tap Clear Data button followed by clicking the OK button to confirm clearing the data.
    • Tap Back button.
    • Find Gallery app, then tap it.
    • Tap Clear Data button followed by clicking the OK button to confirm clearing the data.
  2. Remove Facebook account from sync settings.
    • Go to Settings.
    • Tap Accounts and sync.
    • Tap your Facebook account.
    • Tap the Remove account button followed by clicking the Remove account button to confirm deleting your Facebook account.
  3. Sign in back into Facebook
    • Open Facebook app.
    • Sign in back to your Facebook by entering your user name and password.
    • Once you're in the sync settings screen, make sure not to check any syncing of pictures option.
  4. Now, Open Gallery app from the app drawer.
  5. The Facebook gallery should no longer appear on the Gallery app.

You can use one of two methods mentioned above to remove Facebook photos from Gallery app. For the record, the first method only serves to filter the content that is displayed on your Gallery with Facebook gallery keep in sync with your phone, while the second method will completely deleting Facebook photo from the Gallery app and will not sync the Facebook gallery with your phone. Samsung Galaxy S3: How to Display Facebook Albums and Photos in Gallery

Gallery app is one of the stock app available on Samsung Galaxy SIII which will allow you to view photos and play back videos.   1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Account and sync.
  3. Tap your Facebook account name you wish to sync its gallery.
  4. Tick the checkbox next to Sync Gallery option.
  5. Once the sync process is completed, you should see the album synced marked with Facebook logo on your Gallery.

Well, by doing this step, now you can view your Facebook albums and photos directly through your Gallery app. But, you should note that it will slow down the device during the sync process, especially if your Facebook account has lot of pictures to sync.

  1. On your computer or laptop, open the Blackberry desktop software and connect the device.
  2. Click Organizer menu in the left side of the screen.

  4. On the pop-up window select the Address Book option , then in the following pop up windows select ASCII exporter/importer option to generate .csv contact files as this type of file is allowed to import on the Gmail contacts.
  5. Select One way sync from device, then save the file with .csv extension to export the contact to .csv file. Select the files as the targets and the setup will finish.
  6. Now you'll see in the Organizer menu the checkbox in the left side of the Address Book option is ticked.
  7. Click the Sync button located at the bottom right corner to start exporting.
  8. Click Yes button to confirm exporting contacts.
  9. The app will count the number of contact being exported, if the number is correct then click the Yes button to finish exporting.

Import exported .csv file into Gmail contacts
  1. On your computer launch the web browser by clicking the browser icon on the desktop or access it through the Start button then all programs.
  2. On the browser address bar type gmail.com to navigate to Gmail and then sign in using your Google account associated with your device.
  3. On your Gmail, click Contacts.
  4. Click More.
  5. In the drop down menu select Import.
  6. Click Choose File to select the .csv file that you've just exported from your Blackberry.
  7. Click the Import button.
  8. Finish. Now, the .csv file has been imported into your Gmail contacts.
  9. Sign out from gmail.com

Sync Gmail contacts with the Samsung Galaxy S3
  1. On your Galaxy SIII, go to Apps through Home screen.
  2. Scroll to Settings, then tap on it.
  3. Tap Accounts and sync.
  4. Tap your Google account.
  5. Here you can choose what you would like to sync by ticking the checkbox next to the option or you can tick all the options displayed on your screen, then tap Sync now button to synchronize the contacts.
  6. Finish. Now your imported contacts Blackberry has been synced with your Galaxy SIII.
  7. If you have not activated your Google account on your phone, then you need to activate it first to allow your phone to sync your phone with your Gmail contacts.

Samsung Galaxy S3: How to Use Wishlist Feature on Google Play Store

Google Play Store is the official market for Android phone, including with the Samsung Galaxy SIII. You'll find it as one of the stock apps inside the phone. You need to activate Google account in order to access the Play Store, either a single or multiple Google account.

The Google Play Store has the bookmark-like feature called wishlist which will allow you to flag certain apps for more easier further uses. For instance, you can add certain app into your wishlist to keep track the apps price, availability or else.


How to add or remove apps from wishlist?
Basically you can add or remove all of contents inside the Google Play Store into your wishlist, but we'll use the apps as the example of this step. Well, here's how to do:
  1. Go to Apps through Home screen.
  2. Scroll to Play Store, then tap it.
  3. Browse the apps in the Play Store. Once you've find the ones you like, you can add it to your wishlist by tapping the Wishlist icon at the top area of the screen. The icon looks like a bookmark icon with a tiny plus in the middle of it. The icon will turn solid if the item is flagged as wishlist. Tapping the Wishlist icon again will remove the app from your wishlist.
  4. To see, review or install the apps you have added to your wishlist, simply tap the Menu key then select My Wishlist.

Like bookmarking, this feature will make you more easier to find and track the apps you already added. Unfortunately, there's still no share or email option inside the wishlist to allow you to share your wishlist with others.

There are two ways available to fix the problem as listed below.
I. From the notification bar
After you've change the Gmail password on the web, when the Gmail app in the phone try to sync then you should see a exclamation sign in the notification bar. If so, do as follows:
  1. Pull down the notification bar.
  2. Tap the sign-in error message.
  3. Now you should see a Re-type password screen which will allow you to enter your new Gmail password.
  4. If the password you have entered is correct, then you should be able to login to your Gmail account.

II. From the Gmail app
If you encountering this error but don't see a sign-in error message in notification bar or you may have accidentally cleared them, then you can fix this problem through the Gmail app by following the steps listed below:
  1. Go to Apps through the Home screen.
  2. Tap Gmail.
  3. Tap Sync button.
  4. Now you should see Couldn't sign in error message appears with the SIGN-IN link.
  5. Tap the SIGN-IN link.
  6. Now you should see a screen which will allow you to enter your new Gmail password.
  7. If the password you've entered is correct, then you should be able to login and use your Gmail account in your phone.

4. Sideloading Apps directly through the Phone
Aside from installing apps from the official market, you can also install apps from another sources, or users usually refer it as install .apk file. Apk is android packaging file or it's the same with .exe file in the Windows Operating System. This of course will useful if the apps you want to install is no longer available on the Play Store or Samsung Store, such as Adobe Flash Player. However, by default this option is disabled for security reasons. If you want to enable sideloading apps, you need to enable Unknown sources option that you can find under security settings. Once you've enabled this option, you can download a .apk file through your phone's browser apps then open it through the Download app to start installing. You can also download .apk file from your PC or laptop then copy the file to your phone and open it with the My Files app to start installing. This way also allow you to install from another third-party apps store, such as Amazon App Store, Humble Bundle Apps, and else.

5. Sideloading apps from PC
This way will allow you to install .apk file from the computer, with or without connecting your phone to the computer. AFAIK, the available option to do this way is by using ADB or use AirDroid app--tell me if you know the other ones--. While if you use AirDroid app, you need to connect your phone and computer in the same network.

    • Location and Google search: choose this option to allow Google use your location information to get improved search result and other Google services.
  5. Activate one or more the location services you wish to use by tapping the required option. If the checkbox next to the option is ticked means the option is turned on.
  6. Tap Home button to return to the standby mode.

The information about your location collected by these option will be available on the other functions on your phone, such as search functions, weather forecast and navigation.
